JOB DETAIL

Department: Corporate Affairs & Legal

Location: Head Office

Job Purpose:
Responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the performance of defaulting customers and study government policy in relation to the financial sector and make the necessary recommendation on company’s policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work to achieve organizational goals and objectives by administering the communications and public relations initiatives as determined by the larger organizational strategic planning process
  • Advice to the board and the executive committee on shifts in the operating environment, the agendas and expectations of stakeholders
  • Provide insights, data and intelligence that allow the board and executive committee to understand the external environment and assist in any decision-making process
  • Develop and execute a reputation strategy which supports the growth goals, organization transformation and protects and promotes the reputation of the business
  • Operate as a senior spokesperson and ambassador for the company
  • Support the development of the executive committee’s reputation management and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Own reputation risk identification processes, including anticipation, analysis, monitoring, and regular reporting, within the enterprise risk management frameworks
  • Ensure crisis communication preparedness, and business complies with all communications and stakeholder engagement regulations and guidelines where appropriate
  • Lead and manage the Corporate Affairs team, building capabilities and talent pipeline.
  • Manage external solicitors and other advisors as needed.
  • Draft and negotiate complex legal documents.
  • Perform legal due diligence on potential clients/customers/transactions.
  • Assist with the structure and negotiation of investments.
  • Advice the company on all corporate and legal issues, including those arising from staff grievances, disciplinary procedures and administrative matters.
  • Represent the company in both transactional and non-transactional legal proceedings, including personnel policies and other issues.
  • Compose and review legal documents (e.g. contracts, agreements, regulatory and compliance documents, transactional documents) and correspondence.

Key Performance Indicators
Sound knowledge of the laws of the land.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum of a 1st Degree in Law and a professional law certificate.
  • A second degree will be an added advantage
  • 10 – 15 years post bar qualification relevant work experience in the corporate world as well as in Private Practice (Experience in the financial industry will be an added advantage).
