General Manager

Overview

We are looking for a visionary leader who brings to the Company fresh ideas and perspective leading the Company to develop and deliver on its strategic plan. The General Manager will manage the overall operations of the Company, with the support of the Board of Directors and will be responsible for setting and executing the Company`s strategy and initiatives, monitor its implementation and taking corrective action where necessary, overseeing the management team, and liaising with relevant stakeholders among others.
The General Manager must be a seasoned manager in all aspects of managing an LPG marketing or oil and gas company in Africa. He/she must have demonstrable leadership through a listening and learning culture; strategic thinking, cross-functionally and cross-organizationally; commercial mindset, understanding how to generate income; financial literacy, with a handle on good governance; ability to develop and deliver new, collaborative win-win solutions; exceptional communication and influencing skills; confident networking with partners; and motivates and inspires the team.
The goal is to safeguard and enhance the Company’s profitability, growth, and performance while ensuring that the Company is strategically positioned, remains competitive, and sustainable amidst the changing regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the liaison between the board, management, investors and other key stakeholders
  • Responsible to interface and develop good relations with relevant government Authorities
  • Drives the vision, mission, values, and corporate culture that fosters inclusivity, diversity, and long-term growth and sustainability of the Company
  • Leading the implementation of the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) while addressing and managing risks
  • Provides oversight and ensures effective implementation of risk management tools and systems
  • Defines and/or reviews HSSE policies and ensures full implementation and adherence to the HSSE management system, policies, procedures and other related requirements where applicable
  • Provides stewardship for overall asset integrity, ensures regulatory and legal compliance, and adherence to local and international industry best practices and standards
  • Provides overall leadership to the various teams to identify, diagnose, and mitigate work and project-specific issues to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Provides supervision for all divisions (including Accounting and Finance, Operations, HSSE, Sales and Marketing, etc) and ensures successful delivery of the various functions within the company Leadership Adapts leadership styles to suit different situations; leads by personal example and gains commitment from the team to ensure effective service delivery; motivates staff to achieve personal and corporate goals; earns respect by setting a positive example through own behaviour.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience managing an LPG distribution business (preferably in Africa)
  • Deep knowledge of the market and regulatory landscape
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining positive interactions with regulators and other government agencies
  • MBA with an oil and gas focus is desirable
  • In-depth knowledge of the implementation of Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) in an African context
  • Cylinder reconditioning experience would be an advantage
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen (and attention to detail)
  • Forward-thinking and demonstrable track record of growth initiatives
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as sales, operations, finance etc.
  • Ability to strategize and provide solutions (solve problems)
  • Strong leadership, analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills
