African Mining Services (AMS) is one of the largest Contract Mining Companies in Africa with established support networks in Africa, Australia and Europe. AMS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Perenti. African Mining Services is currently seeking an experienced Training Manager to become a part of our African operations. Reporting to the Perenti Mining Manager of Training, this position will be responsible for providing guidance and leadership to the Training team and to give support and advice to Management on training and safety related issues on site. This position can be based of Accra or Bankyim, Ghana.

Job Description

Develops and administers training programs for employees, assesses training and development needs for organizations, helps individuals and groups develop skills and knowledge, creates training manuals, presents in-person training sessions, monitors training for effectiveness

Training managers are specialists who help businesses by developing, facilitating and supervising training programs for employees. They assess the needs of a business, implement training and development plans, and facilitate a wide variety of training programs that enhance the effectiveness of the workforce.

Key Responsibilities/ Functions

  • Implement the Perenti Training Management System across the AMS business.
  • ·  Provide support to Training Superintendents to manage compliance in relation to training and GAP analysis’ with appropriate plans.
  • Conduct training audits to ensure site training compliance
  • Develop and mentor the Workplace Trainers and Assessors team within the Training Department
  • Coordinate Training Superintendents across multiple countries in Africa.
  • Provide guidance to the Training team at the Perenti Training Centre in Maun, Botswana.
  • Manage the simulator fleet across operations.
  • Work closely with Safety Department to continuously improve safety and environmental standards.
  • Develop individualized and group training programs that address specific business needs.
  • Develop training manuals that target tangible results.
  • Implement effective and purposeful training methods.
  • Effectively manage the training budget.
  • Evaluate organizational performance to ensure that training is meeting business needs and improving performance.
  • Assess employees’ skills, performance and productivity to identify areas of improvement.
  • Drive brand values and philosophy through all training and development activities.
  • Effectively communicate with team members, trainers and management.
  • Create a curriculum to facilitate strategic training based on the organizations goals.
  • Select and manage resources, including working with both internal employees and training vendors to develop and deliver training.
  • Manage the technologies and technical personnel required to develop, manage and deliver training.
  • Keep abreast of training trends, developments and best practices.

Qualification/ Requirements

  • Formal Training & Assessment qualifications
  • 10 years experience in the mining industry
  • Experience in managing teams across multiple jurisdictions and / or countries
  • High level understanding of training systems and process
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Superb track record in developing and executing successful training programs.
  • Critical thinker with innovative problem solving skills.
  • Highly computer literate with proficiency in MS Office and related business and communication tools.
  • Familiar with traditional and modern training processes.
  • Fantastic organizational and time management skills.
  • Strategic and creative mindset.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
