Overview

A facilities manager’s duties will vary depending on the nature of the organization, but generally entail maintaining the buildings and grounds of an organization, overseeing the upkeep of equipment and supplies, determining and scheduling repairs or renovation projects, and coordinating safety inspections. Facilities managers are in charge of a budget and must negotiate with outside vendors for supplies, repairs, and other measures. Facilities managers are responsible for the security, maintenance and services of work facilities to ensure that they meet the needs of the organization and its employees. Facilities managers essentially look after all of the services that helps a business or other organization do its work

Job Functions/Tasks

  • Oversees building and grounds maintenance.
  • Operates and maintains custodial functions.
  • Ensures security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly.
  • Ensures that the facility is clean and maintained according to company policy and procedures.
  • Handles general accounting tasks, such as accounts payable, payroll, petty cash, and budgeting.
  • Oversees and supervises the quality of work for other employees to ensure that all tasks are performed correctly, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Manages and reviews service contracts.
  • Conducts and documents regular facilities inspections.
  • Checks completed work by vendors and contractors.
  • Recommends maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility design modifications.
  • Communicates workplace safety precautions to employees.
  • Forecasts, allocates, and supervises the financial and physical resources of the facility managemen

Qualification /Requirement

  •  Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree or HND in Facilities Management or related fields with at least 2 years post qualification experience.
  • Must be a member of a professional body
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Most employers prefer a BA in facility management, business, information management, or engineering
  • 3 -5 years in related position
