Job Title: Process Maintenance Planner

Join the Newmont Maintenance Team where you will  support with planning and scheduling for the process plant to ensure availability of resources, reduce unplanned equipment maintenance and prevent equipment breakdowns.

Main Responsibilities/Tasks

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Take personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his /her supervision.
  • Attend monthly safety inspection and meetings.

New Work Request Oversight

  • Establish and maintain short-term maintenance schedules (i.e. three to six months ahead).
  • Conduct regular schedule and maintenance plan reviews with key partners biannually to enable accurate scoping of jobs.
  • Manage all new notifications or work requests by:
  • checking for duplicate requests.
  • Reviewing request and verifying validity.
  • prioritizing, setting due-date and acquiring approvals as required.
  • Converting notifications or work requests to work orders using task list or standard jobs.
  • Attaching standard task or standard operating procedures (STP/SOP) where they exist.
  • Managing the aged notifications or work request backlog.

Shutdown Planning and Scheduling

  • Plan and schedule minor and major shutdown works.
  • Review work orders and maintenance plans or maintenance support teams (MSTs) for inclusion in shutdowns and change work groups as required.
  • Export shutdown work orders to MS Project, as required.
  • Identify shutdown critical path activities and update shutdown schedule as required.
  • Update Completion in Computerized Maintenance Management System Management (CMMS) based on changes made to the shutdown schedule.
  • Finalize and commit shutdown scope, budget and schedule.
  • Lead and participate in regular planning, scheduling and shutdown meetings, as the need arises.

Work Order Planning

  • Work with the Senior Maintenance Planner and General Foreman regarding the prioritization of jobs for completion.
  • Supervise and ensure that work orders are fully planned and resourced prior to being scheduled.
  • Conduct reviews of maintenance plans and costing, and make adjustments, where required.
  • Conduct coding of work orders to suit the requirements of the Asset Management Tool (AMT) for budgeting.
  • Review outstanding work orders with priority P3 or P4 to identify jobs to be planned.
  • Identify and document planning details including but not limited to job scope, task list, procedures, resources, skill sets, parts, materials, services, job duration, cranes and hoists, special tools, required plant, outage    requirement, cost estimate, safety requirement and notifications, risk assessments, permits, isolations and quality checks.
  • Acquire work approvals, as required.
  • Create reservations and requisitions for parts, materials, services and special tools and equipment.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Set work order status to fully planned.
  • Create and update maintenance plans or MSTs with task list or standard jobs for all repetitive corrective work.
  • Create bill of materials (BOMs) or application parts list (APLs) and work packs as required.
  • Coordinate and facilitate backlog review meetings with key stakeholders as the need arises.
  • Assist Maintenance Supervisors to plan and resource P1 and P2 work orders, as required.

Work Order and Pack Scheduling and Distribution

  • Identify assets available for work and run forecast for the next schedule period.
  • Run and distribute the following reports for each scheduling period to relevant stakeholders: Outstanding Work Report, Weekly Scheduling Report, Work Order Parts and Material Availability Report.
  • Prepare and review draft schedule with relevant stakeholders, update and finalize.
  • Distribute committed schedule to stakeholders and prepare weekly schedule folders for each work group.

Work Order Completion in CMMS

  • Pull relevant information required from the SAP system to advise the approach for work order completion.
  • Update component and/or equipment tracking in CMMS.
  • Check that work orders are completed with appropriate labor, materials and coding in a timely manner.
  • Review closing comments and improvement suggestions on completed work orders and action appropriately to improve future planning.
  • Produce key performance indicators (KPI’s) for each period, review performance and take action to improve.
  • Resolve management operating system (MOS) Element non-conformances by direct intervention / coaching wherever possible, or referring non-conformances to the General Foreman for resolution, if initial efforts are not successful.
  • Take ownership of identified improvement opportunities to the MOS Element.
  • Oversee that all MOS Element documentation is up to date and approved changes are communicated to all relevant stakeholders.

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Higher National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Additional Knowledge: 

  • Sound knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standards.
  • Sound knowledge of the work management process.
  • Sound knowledge of planning and scheduling.
  • Sound knowledge of the operation of the CMMS (Ellipse/SAP).
  • General knowledge of performance measures, defect elimination methodologies and their interpretation.

Experience: 

  • A minimum of 3 – 4 years’ working experience in planning and maintenance systems in a large gold operation or similar heavy industrial site, of which 2 – 3 years should be leading maintenance teams.
  • Knowledge and experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).

  • The position is located at the Ahafo South mine. The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job.

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit at a desk for extended periods, climb stairs, walk and stand.
