A reputable mining company with operations in many countries is seeking for a Legal Manager for a project for it’s new project in Bolgatanga enclave, northern Ghana.

Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer (CEO), the Legal Manager provides strong leadership and direction to the Team to safely deliver on all operational and financial business plans during the project execution phase. This position will be based at our office in Accra with recurrent travel to the Mine Site and our offices in Bolgatanga. The safety key performance indicators are: Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) is less than 2.5, Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) is less than 0.5, Working related fatalities is zero.

 Job Description

This role is responsible for managing legal matters impacting our business upon referral from the CEO and the Board of Directors. Key duties of this role include negotiating, drafting, and reviewing legal agreements with major mining and construction customers, providing legal advice to business stakeholders on a range of regulatory and contractual issues, managing and resolving complex disputes (including litigation), and acting as Company Secretary for the Company. Provide advice to and support the management team and business units in mitigating legal-related risks.

Job Functions/ Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a legal framework for the activities of the team with alignment to the company’s Legal Framework.
• Supervise external service providers on a cost-benefit basis.
• Conduct research and develop legal frameworks, analyze local and international trends that could impact the business.
• Substantial experience in corporate commercial matters.
• Knowledge of applicable legislation incl. corporate law, competition law, environmental law, explosives law, mining law, tax law, labor law, etc.
• In-depth knowledge of legal processes and procedures.
• Legal matter management The legal department is typically responsible for all legal and legal related external matters such as litigation, investigations, compliance, mergers and acquisitions. …
• Service delivery management The legal department is often a service provider to key groups with the company

Job Qualification & Requirements

• Law degree in Ghana and member of the Bar.
• Approximately 6-8 years post qualification experience as a legal practitioner in a relevant area of law or industry.
• Experience in the Mining and Manufacturing industries ideally.
• Ability to foresee and identify problems and define possible solutions, taking into account related risks.
• Significant demonstrated leadership which supports a high-performance culture.
• Excellent negotiation and relationship skills.
• A commercial mindset and sound judgment.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
• Excellent communication skills in the provision of legal advice (written, verbal and interpersonal).
