JOB SUMMARY 

Our client, a catering company that provides food services at remote sites for reputable organisations, is seeking to hire cooks. The successful candidate will report to the Director and be responsible for preparing and cooking meals according to recipes and established standards.

The ideal candidate should be prepared to follow food, health, and safety procedures.

Location: East Airport and Spintex


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Food Preparation:

Preparing ingredients, which may include chopping vegetables, portioning meats, and preparing sauces. 

  • Cooking:

Cooking food using various methods like grilling, frying, baking, or steaming, following recipes and established procedures. 

  • Order Management:

Receiving and processing orders, ensuring that food is prepared and delivered promptly. 

  • Equipment Operation:

Operating kitchen equipment like ovens, grills, and fryers, ensuring they are used safely and efficiently. 

  • Hygiene and Sanitation:

Maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment, including proper food handling and storage procedures. 

  • Inventory Management:

Monitoring food stock levels, reporting shortages, and assisting with ordering new ingredients. 

  • Collaboration:

Working with other kitchen assistants to ensure smooth and efficient service. 

  • Quality Control:

Checking the quality of ingredients and finished dishes, ensuring they meet established standards. 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a cook or relevant work experience will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, including safe temperatures at which ingredients must be kept and at which food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating on complex dishes
  • Calm demeanour to work in a high-stress fast fast-paced environment
  • Comprehension and organization to follow direct orders and recipes to correctly prepare dishes to the standards of the business
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle tools such as knife technologies for chopping, slicing, cutting, and dicing
  • Ability to stand in one place for hours at a time, handle extreme heat, and work shifts
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Able to quickly memorize complex or multiple orders
  • Previous experience in a team environment and various cooking methods preferred.
