Applications Officer (Windows System Administrator) at A Reputable Company

A reputable multinational company engaged in the provision of trade solutions and advisory services to both public and private sectors have a vacancy for dynamic individuals to join its winning team as a: Applications Officer (Windows System Administrator).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyse user support statistics and other data and recommend appropriate measures
  • Maintain network and workstation hardware and software as well as deployed application utilised on the network
  • Monitor network to ensure network availability to all systems users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability
  • Install and configure computer hardware, networks, operating systems and applications (desktops, servers, printers, etc)
  • Troubleshoot system and network problems and diagnose and solve hardware/software faults
  • Replace hardware and parts as required
  • Repair a fault or set up a system following diagrams and written instructions
  • Support the rollout of new computer applications
  • Respond to service indicents within the times specified in any service level agreement (SLA)
  • Provide telephone, e-mail and remote support to all IT users, solving their problems and providing procedural documentation as required
  • Manage the IT Service Desk system, logging all incidents and request, their acknowledgments and their resolutions and ensuring that all support tickets are handled effectively and expeditiously
  • Set up new users accounts and profiles and deal with password issues
  • Work assiduously on a task unit completion (or referral to third parties, where appropriate)
  • Identify and correct or advise, on operational issues with end users computer systems
  • Provide basic software training and advice to end-users
  • Manage backups of all systems ensuring that they run successfully and to manage rotation of backups off-site for safe storage
  • Update systems and servers regularly with approved software updates
  • Monitor system & servers logs, following up on any security or performance issues
  • Maintain the inventory of hardware and software license and telephone contracts
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with, colleagues, end users and other professionals (e.g. suppliers and software developers)
    Test and evaluate new technology
  • Recommend software and parts as instructed by the Head of IT.
  • Preform light lifting and manual handling of IT equipment
  • Participate in a 24×7 on duty rotation
  • Attend meetings, seminars and trainings
  • Support stakeholders on their daily operational activities
  • Maintain current antivirus definitions and latest patches on all deployed computers ensuring they are up to date
  • Other tasks as may be assigned

Qualification Required & Experience

  • Minimum of First Degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related qualification
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Windows, Solaris, Linux, UNIX, SQL, RAID, etc
  • Experience in managing UNIX and Microsoft Windows environments
  • Experience in change management in heterogeneous IT environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meed deadline
  • Certificate in MCSE, MCSA, MTA in windows administrator is an added advantage
