Reports to: Field Manager
Duration: 1 week of training, and 3 – 4 weeks of field work
Desired start date: 13th May, 2019
Job Code: TRACTa-BL-FS-05042019

Project Summary
The “Marketing, Tractor Coordination and Technology Adoption” (“TRACTa”) project seeks to address constraints for smallholder farmers, as many make the shift from subsistence farming to greater involvement with the agricultural value chain. This pattern is evident in northern Ghana, where small-scale agriculturalists rely on subsistence farming and face low productivity, difficulty in technology adoption, and exclusion from markets that are growing rapidly in the rest of the country.

The project aims to better understand constraints faced by smallholder farmers in Northern Ghana that may hinder greater productivity, profitability and improved welfare. The study will examine barriers such as: thin output markets, accessibility of tractor services, and lack of information on best farming practices.

The study will be carried out in 200 communities, reaching over 4,000 project participants including maize and soya farmers. The geographic focus will be in the Northern Region of Ghana, across 6 districts, including: Yendi, Gusheigu, Karaga, Mion, Savelugu and Saboba.
