Job Summary

Agricultural consultants are specialist advisers who provide technical, commercial and financial advice and information to farming, agricultural and public sector staff. Also give advice to companies which produce animal feed, seeds, fertilizers, weed killers and other materials used on farms. You are expected to also advise landowners, environmental agencies and conservation bodies. Agricultural consultants provide advice on the use and management of agricultural land. Typically they specialize either in business or technical expertise; specialists in the former area advise agricultural landowners on financial issues and business strategy, while technical specialists consider how to make the most effective use of the land. Technical specialists often focus on a particular area, such as pollution control, forestry consultancy, or crop rotation. Whatever the specialization, the ultimate aim of an agricultural consultant is to balance the commercial viability of agricultural land with sustainable development. Key tasks include:

Responsibilities/ Functions

• Corresponding with clients to identify and evaluate their business or technical requirements.
•  Advising on the best types of seeds to use
•   Advising on better ways to keep and feed livestock.
•  Introducing alternative farming methods, such as organic farming.
•  Advising on health and safety.
•  Advising on business planning, budgets and applying for grants.
• Advising on animal diseases and pest control
• making presentations
• writing technical publications
• preparing reports
• developing and maintaining a set of client contacts
• maintaining awareness of developments in your area of specialization, as well as the wider agricultural sector
• attending conferences
• advertising and marketing services.

Qualifications/ Requirements

•   A certificate in OND, HND, BSc in agriculture, Horticulture, plant science, soil science, environmental science or related studies.
•   Experience working on a farm not required as selected candidates will be trained.
•  You must be business orientation.
• Must be between the ages of 25  – 45 years.
