Pastry Chef Needed at Alpha Beta Education Centres

Overview

We are looking for a creative pastry chef to be responsible for crafting delicious desserts and confectionery, designing seasonal menus, and developing new recipes for the pastry section of our kitchen. You should be passionate about baking and be inspired to create masterpieces that go beyond our customers’ expectations.

To be successful in this role you must be well-versed in the culinary arts and adhere to strict standards of hygiene and cleanliness.  To prepare a variety of desserts, pastries or other sweet foods. Candidate’s skill in baking quality treats should be matched by their  creativity to develop new amazing tastes and recipes.

The ideal candidate must be well-versed in culinary arts with a passion for sweet and delicious creations. They must adhere to health and safety standards to provide clients with the best possible serving.

The goal is to enhance customer satisfaction so that we can maintain and expand our clientele.

Job Description

Pastry chefs, also known as dessert chefs, are responsible for creating an assortment of desserts, including pastries, cookies, and other confections. They can work in a variety of food industries and will usually be a part of a larger team of chefs. A Pastry Chef, or Dessert Chef, bakes various desserts in a kitchen within a restaurant or bakery. Their main duties include following recipes to create pastries, cookies and other baked goods, developing new and unique recipes to feature on the menu and keeping stock of the kitchen’s inventory.

Responsibilities

  •   Prepare a wide variety of deserts such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes
    Create new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage the interest of customers
    Decorate pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting.
  •  Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget
    Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking.
  •  Maintain a lean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety
  • Developing new recipes for seasonal menus.
  • Decorating pastries and desserts to ensure beautiful and tasteful presentation.
  • Meeting with customers to discuss details and planning of custom-made desserts and pastries for special occasions, such as weddings.
  • Monitoring the stock of baking ingredients.
  • Ordering new supplies, ingredients, and equipment for the pastry section, when needed, and within budget.
  • Ensuring their section of the kitchen adheres to safety and health regulations.
  • Supervising and training staff members, when needed.
  • Preparing ingredients and handling baking and other kitchen equipment.
  • Creating pastries, baked goods, and confections, by following a set recipe.

Pastry Chef Requirements:

  • High school diploma.
  • Post-secondary training at a culinary institution.
  • Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or relevant field.
  • 2 or more years’ experience working within the food industry as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or relevant role.
  • Working knowledge of baking techniques and the pastry-making process.
  • Creative ability with artistic skill in decorating cakes and other desserts.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation, and nutrition.
  • Flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings, when necessary.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, production environment.
