IT systems administrator at University College of Management Studies

Overview

UCOMS is seeking to for new Senior Members who will play leading and important roles in the University College. As an IT administrator, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the College  IT network, servers and security systems. System administrators typically install, upgrade and monitor software and hardware.

The system administrator’s responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues, as well as ensuring that all computing operations run with optimal performance and security.

To be successful as a system administrator, you should have an excellent ability to solve problems using your in-depth understanding of information systems and computing solutions. The best system administrator will also be a team player, willing to handle all support requests with courtesy and professionalism. They usually maintain the essentials such as operating systems, business applications, security tools, web-servers, email, PCs, local and wide area networking both hardware and software and mid-range server hardware

Job Description

This role is absolutely essential within any organization to ensure business continuity – if an IT network fails, the impact on the day to day running of the business can be significant, sometimes catastrophic. System administrators, or SysAdmins, are responsible for setting up and maintaining computer systems. They ensure that computers in the company’s network, especially the server, run smoothly and securely.

To ensure this doesn’t happen, you’ll be responsible for investigating and diagnosing network problems, collecting IT usage stats, making recommendations for improving the company’s IT systems and carrying out routine configuration and installation of IT solutions. On a day to day basis, you might be called upon to help colleagues with more basic IT needs. This will mean you’ll need to share your own knowledge to help others, including setting up new users and managing backup, security and passwords. You’re also the company’s internet police, monitoring internet and email use.

IT System Administrator Responsibilities

  • Configuring and maintaining the networked computer system, including hardware, system software, and applications.
  • Ensuring data is stored securely and backed up regularly.
  • Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, networking, and system issues when they arise.
  • Replacing and upgrading defective or outdated components when necessary.
  • Monitoring system performance to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely.
  • Researching and recommending new approaches to improve the networked computer system.
  • Providing technical support when requested.
  • Documenting any processes which employees need to follow in order to successfully work within our computing system

Qualification Requirement & Experience

  • Hold a Postgraduate degree or its equivalent in IT
  •  Have been an ICT Head in a University or comparable Institution/Organization for at least five (5) years
  •  Must have experience in System Analysis, Networking & Systems Administration and Data Validation
  •  Have working knowledge in computer Hardware
  • Microsoft MCSE certification or similar.
  • Past experience administering server-side technology and networked computing systems.
  • Familiarity with SQL and database operations.
  • Ability to prioritize a wide range of workloads with critical deadlines.
  • Availability outside of working hours to resolve emergency issues promptly.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Patient and professional demeanor, with a can-do attitude.
