Head, Human Resource Management at A Reputable Firm

Job Purpose

  • The HR Head will provide strategic and operational support to the human resources function in the company, this role will be responsible for driving formulation and implementation of HR strategies/initiatives
  • The goal is to ensure that HR needs of the company are met and aligned with the overall strategy of the company

Key Responsibilities

Trusted Advisor:

  • Act as the trusted advisor to management on people issues, support management by providing metric people advice.
  • The role will lead staff and drive the awareness of the company’s values through change management initiatives with the support of the chief executive
  • Work closely with business leaders and line management to provide specialist guidance on various HR related matters
  • Ensure that managers and staff are fully aware of HR policies
  • Act as the liaison between the company and external agencies/stakeholders on HR related matters

People Strategy:

  • Drive the development and the implementation of a business aligned people strategy through policies and procedures with the aim to increase performance, deliver company objectives and ensure increase return on equity for shareholders.
  •  Implement HR strategy within the organization, working alongside business leaders.
  • Lead and develop the HR team to enforce best practice.

Rewards and Recognition:

  • Institute a fair and robust performance driven reward and recognition strategy that leads to the attraction, retention and development of talent within the company.

Resourcing:

  • Work with the Chief Executive and Heads of Department to develop a proactive resourcing plan for filling critical roles from both internal pool and external searches in line with approved manpower needs and budget.

Performance:

  • Develop and implement a robust performance management system that measures and monitors organizational and people performance in line with set goals and institute consequence management guidelines and actions.

Employee Relations:

  • Coach and support Heads of Department with regards to people management issues and ensure that appropriate disciplinary channels and procedures are adopted at all times.
  • Oversee investigations and complex employee relations issues including redundancy and grievance.
  • Introduce and drive change management initiative.

Administration & Procedures:

  • Develop and review HR policies and procedure manuals and ensure strict adherence.
  • Keep an efficient employee data management system.
  • Institute best practice employee well-fare

Budget Management:

  • Responsible for the preparation and ownership of people related costs and HR Capital Expenditure items of the company.

Qualification Required & Experience

  • A good first degree in a relevant field and/or Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management or other relevant areas
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive HR experience with a minimum of 5 years in management position
  • Excellent knowledge of the country labour laws
  • Good knowledge of organisational behaviour and HR strategy
  • Thorough knowledge of human resource management principles and best practices

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong HR generalist orientation (Organisational Design and Development, Employee Relations, performance and reward, employees engagement, change management, learning and development, Resourcing)
  • Knowledge of insurance principles and business concepts as well as industry experience in the recruitment of technology, underwriting, risk management and other insurance roles
  • Hands-on experience in drawing and managing budget policies, procedures and processes, good interpersonal & communication skills, able to build relationships, influence, counsel, negotiate, lead and manage conflicts
  • Knowledge and experience of Human Resource information systems and Microsoft packages
  • Diligent with high ethical standards
